Bandit, an Ethos-PUSH Story
May 2, 2025
Bandit, a black sable German Shepherd, entered Paige’s life when he was a year old. They locked eyes at a rescue 11 years ago and have been inseparable ever since. Bandit lost his leg as a puppy, but it never slowed him down, he still runs like a “bat out of hell”. In fact, Bandit’s zeal for life can be felt in everything he does, be it swimming, body surfing, jumping, or fulfilling his duties as a therapy dog.
Paige has six dogs, but Bandit is her soul dog. She understands him and knows when something seems off. It is this feeling that led her to take him to a veterinary emergency hospital late one night. They performed an ultrasound and identified bleeding from his spleen. The emergency room doctor presented her with choices, but all Paige could think was that she just wanted to save him. He came into her life during a difficult time, and she feels lucky to have him. One of the choices presented was to enroll Bandit into Ethos Discovery’s Ethos-PUSH clinical trial, and being a middle school science teacher, she could not say no. She knew participation in a clinical trial would help him as well as others.
Bandit’s tumor was tested, and hemangiosarcoma was confirmed, so he continued receiving treatment through the Ethos-PUSH trial. It has been a year since that terrible night in the ER, and Bandit has undergone several treatments, but it has not slowed him down.
Paige thanks those who support veterinary research. She knows that without it she and Bandit would not have had the opportunity to participate in the Ethos-PUSH Trial. She is grateful for the extra time she has had with Bandit and sees every day as a gift.
